Lenore Lee Coats

After attending graduate school for an MFA in painting I didn’t really know nor could I define a path for the future until a friend of the family intervened with an invitation to see if I might like NYC and the world of advertising. I took that opportunity and went NYC. It was an intense experience but full of culture, fun and hard work. Employed by J Walter Thompson Advertising I learned the business but decided it wasn’t for me. I knew I could go to Hallmark Cards and publish in color within a year of my arrival. After leaving Hallmark Business Expressions in 2001, I came to The Printery House as Creative Director. It has been a very rewarding Experience working with freelance artists and calligraphers through out the United States and Australia.

Artist Statement

I am inspired by many things but especially with a critical eye for design. My influences have come from my father, fellow artists, nature, music and travel. I will admit to having a passion for movies and reading. There is loads of inspiration there. I think its part of being an artist filtering and processing everything one can take in. I have done many things in my career including; greeting cards, annual reports, logos, advertising and illustration. My most recent medium are the shadow boxes which I find rewarding and very exciting for my clients. I think it’s an ESSENTIAL part of being an artist to look for inspiration, from all directions. I like to create art that is not only visually interesting, but is also, in some way, “moving”, to the person who is viewing the art.

My career has included the following challenges:

Art Direction, design and illustration
Project managing
Coordination with design team and/or client
Conceptualization and development
Design presentation
Prepress coordination
Color recommendation
Proof review and press checks
